Dev Deepawali (Dev Diwali) in Varanasi

Great — here’s a detailed overview of the Dev Deepawali light show event in Varanasi (and specifically how it’s offered by your brand Shivakashi Travels), including what to expect, what’s included, logistics & tips.

What the event is

  • Dev Deepawali (also called “Festival of the Gods”) is celebrated in Varanasi on the full-moon night of the Hindu month of Kartika. Wikipedia+2shivakashitravels.com+2

  • On this night the ghats of the Ganges River (from the southern end at Ravidas Ghat through Rajghat) are lit by hundreds of thousands (even a million+) earthen lamps (diyas).

  • It’s marked by the evening aarti, floating lamps, boat rides to view the lit ghats, and now modern additions such as laser/mapping shows

What the tour by Shivakashi Travels includes

From the information on their website:

  • A dedicated page: “Dev Diwali in Kashi” for 5 November 2025. shivakashitravels.com+1

  • The “Dev Diwali 2025: The Festival of Lights for the Gods in Varanasi” tour. shivakashitravels.com

  • In a related listing (for boat & package tours by others) the components include boat ride covering the ghats, light/motorboat view, safety gear, included snacks/water. (While this is not exactly the same as Shivakashi’s listing, it gives a good idea of what to expect)

So you can reasonably assume the Shivakashi package gives you:

  • Evening/ night view of the ghats when lit up for Dev Deepawali

  • Possibly a boat ride on the Ganges to view the lights from the water

  • Viewing the aarti and light show / laser show from a vantage point

  • Tour guidance and possibly transportation/local pickup (depending on the exact package)

Why this is a special experience

  • The visual of ghats lit by thousands of lamps on the riverfront is very rare and spiritual — a strong draw for both pilgrims and photographers.

  • Being on the boat means you avoid some of the crowd on the steps of the ghats, and you get a panoramic, continuous view of the lights reflecting in the river.

  • The festival has cultural depth — it commemorates the belief that gods descend to the Ganges on this night.

  • Having a guided/tour package means you don’t have to worry about logistics in a crowded event night.

Logistics & what to plan for

  • Date: 5 November 2025 is marked for Dev Deepawali. shivakashitravels.com+1

  • Time: Evening onwards (the ghats get lit, aarti happens, the boat rides begin) — exact meeting/boarding time will be specified in the package.

  • Location: Varanasi — boarding from a ghat (likely one of the major ghats like Dashashwamedh Ghat or nearby) for the boat ride.

  • Package considerations: Confirm what is included — hotel pickup/drop, boat ride type (shared/private), snacks/water, safety gear.

  • Crowds: Very large; while boat ride mitigates part of crowd, some waiting and fluid logistics are to be expected.

  • Photography: Bring a good camera or smartphone with low-light capability; bring some backup charged battery or power bank.

  • Dress: Comfortable but respectful. Evening may get cool by the river.

  • Safety: If boat ride, ensure life-jackets are available; keep personal belongings safe.

  • Book early: Because this is a highly popular event, packages fill up quickly.

Tips specific for your brand & for your clients

Since you (via Shivakashi Travels) are promoting this, here are some talking points and value additions you can highlight in your marketing:

  • Emphasize exclusive vantage points offered (e.g., boat ride covering all 84 ghats, if your package includes this)

  • Offer early-bird discounts or family/group pricing (since your user base might include families)

  • Provide deep links on your website (you said you like to include deep links) — e.g., link from your tour blog to the booking page: https://shivakashitravels.com/dev-diwali-in-kashi (the page exists) shivakashitravels.com

  • Create an SEO-friendly blog post ahead of the event: e.g., “What to expect at Dev Deepawali 2025 in Varanasi”, “Best boat ride tours for Dev Diwali in Varanasi by Shivakashi Travels”. Use meta description and keywords like “Dev Diwali Varanasi 2025”, “Varanasi ghats light show”, “boat ride Dev Deepawali”.

  • Include FAQs on your tour page: e.g., “What time does the boat leave?”, “Is food included?”, “How crowded is it?”, “What happens if it rains?”, “Where do we board?”

  • Add client testimonials/past pictures (if you have them) of previous years’ Dev Deepawali boat rides, to increase trust.

  • Highlight safety and comfort — e.g., “Life jackets, well-lit boat, limited group size”.

  • For families with children (since you know some of your clients are families), mention child-friendly aspects: earlier boarding, shorter ride, safe seating.

  • Consider adding a “What to bring” list: camera, light jacket, comfortable shoes, waterproof bag for phone, etc.

Dev Diwali Ganga Aarti by Boat

Dev Deepawali in Varanasi: A Celestial Manifestation in the City of Light

Dev Deepawali or Dev Deepawali in Varanasi is celebrated on Kartik Poornima, the full moon of the Hindu month of Kartik, fifteen days after Diwali. Dev Deepawali is not standalone, in itself. It is celebrated on the last day of Ganga Mahotsav, which begins on Prabodhini Ekadashi (11th day of the Lunar month of Kartik) and ends in Dev Deepawali which will fall on November 15 this year. It is interesting to note that Dev Deepawali in Varanasi also coincides with Guru Nanak Jayanti and Jain Light Festival.

Dev Deepawali Date 2025
November 05, 2025

Not to be confused with Deepawali (or Diwali), Dev Deepawali or Dev Diwali in Varanasi is a festival celebrated every year on the occasion of Kartik Poornima. This happens to be 15 days after Diwali. This year, Dev Deepawali in Varanasi will be on November 05, 2025.

For most travellers and spiritual seekers alike, Varanasi is a dream destination. People from all over the world come and stay in this city for days, seeking spiritual peace, meditating on the banks of the Holy River Ganga and paying several visits to the temples in what is popularly known as the city of temples. Dev Deepawali in Varanasi or Dev Diwali is that time of the year when Varanasi truly seems like an abode of the Gods, not just of temples. Often known as the City of Light, Dev Deepawali is probably a manifestation of this very epithet.

Dev Deepawali in Varanasi Celebrations

The traditional plan of events for Dev Deepawali in Varanasi is quite elaborate and is followed religiously every year. The ceremony starts with the offering of prayers (Ganesh Vandana) and flowers to Lord Ganesh. This is followed by the offering of lit earthen lamps or diyas, known as deepdaanby 21 Brahmins and 41 young girls with the chanting of Vedic mantras in the background. A lot of devotees take a dip in the river Ganges on this auspicious day, known as Kartik Snan. This ritual is believed to rid a person of his/her sins. Many households also organize Akhand Ramayan (chanting of the holy scripture, Ramayana) followed by Bhoj where food is offered to people.

Apart from having a religious tinge to it, martyrs are also remembered at the ghats. This is done by praying to Ganga Mata and by offering an aarti to her. This is organized by Ganga Seva Nidhi when wreaths are placed at Amar Jawan Jyoti at Dashashwamedh Ghat and also at the adjoining Rajendra Prasad Ghat by police officials, and also the members of the three armed forces. To mark this event, patriotic songs are also sung.

Ghats Are Lit Up With Diyas

Dev Deepawali is a spectacle worth beholding in Varanasi. Every ghat and temple in the Holy City is alight with earthen ghee diyas. Whether the stars have found their way down to the Earth or not, one can hardly say. It is believed that the Gods descend to Varanasi on this auspicious occasion to take a dip in the River Ganga. This is what makes this festival so popular. Tourists from all over the country flock to Varanasi during this auspicious festival. On the night of the main festival, thousands of people, locals and tourists alike, come to watch the spectacular and elaborate aarti at the river ghats. With thousands of diyas lit all over the place. The view is rather enchanting and magical, despite a large number of people.

The Ganga Aarti: The Culmination of Dev Deepawali in Varanasi

dev diwali in Varanasi 2017, dev deepawali

If you thought Benares was the champion of Ganga Aarti, wait till you attend the Ganga Aarti on Dev Deepawali in Varanasi. The ghats are seen to be teeming with people from all over the country and the world, but the crowded Dashashwamedh Ghat is in no way devoid of excitement or enthusiasm. The Ganga Aarti you will see on the evening of Dev Deepawali is the most elaborate Ganga Aarti that is performed during the whole year.

You will soon grow tired of counting or imagining the sheer number of earthen lamps on the ghats and will be taken aback by the exquisite beauty of this particular evening in Banaras. The evening aarti at Assi Ghat is the next hotspot for visitors to flock. Reeva Ghat, Man Mandir Ghat, Kedar Ghat and Panch Ganga Ghat should also be visited on the evening of Dev Deepawali in Varanasi.
